Abstract
We develop a variance reduction technique to estimate a small failure probability in an unreliable system with repairs. Since the probability of failure is considered to be small, it is natural to use the rare event simulation techniques in order to decrease the variance of the the estimator. For degradation process we proposed a combined method based on two approaches designed to rare events simulation: the standard conditional Monte Carlo method and the splitting technique.
